“‘We’re fighting, aren’t we?’ said Dean, taking out his fake Galleon. ‘The message said Harry was back, and we were going to fight! I’ll have to get a wand, though—‘”
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Like Harry Potter, Dean Thomas grew up knowing nothing of the magical world. His mother was a Muggle, and all we know about Dean’s father from the books is that he abandoned his wife and son when Dean was a baby. According to Harry Potter Wiki (which references J.K. Rowling’s official site) Dean’s father’s motive was noble. He abandoned his family during the First Wizarding War to protect them. The Death Eaters were looking for him and eventually murdered him when he refused to join with them.
Dean Thomas seems like a very restful person to be around. Though everything in the magical world is new to him, he seems to take it all in stride. When his best friend, Seamus Finnigan, gets upset over reports from the Daily Prophet concerning Harry Potter, Dean stays out of the conflict. Dean enjoys soccer, quidditch, and rebelling against Delores Umbridge by joining Dumbledore’s Army.
Because of his unknown blood status, Dean is forced to go on the run during his seventh year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He returns to Hogwarts to fight against the Death Eaters and witnesses the final battle between Harry Potter and Voldemort.
Dean is calm, reliable, and courageous. Dean Thomas is a true Gryffindor and is the eighth block in the Harry Potter Gryffindors C2C Crochet Afghan.

After you finish crocheting the block, crochet one row of single crochet in MUSTARD around the entire block. See Adding a Single Crochet Edge around a Finished C2C Block for how I crochet around the edge.
This Dean Thomas block turned out great! I have tried really hard for each of the blocks to design the hair to really look like the actor chosen to play his/her character. I think this block looks just like Alfred Enoch. Don’t you?
Next month we’ll crochet Dean Thomas’s best friend—Seamus Finnigan.
See you in September!
